Best Phillip Island Take-away Meals

Don’t want to cook? Try some of the best Phillip Island take-away cafes for a delicious, inexpensive meal.

Every type of food imaginable is available – burgers, fish and chips, Asian, Greek…

Or for lunches, there are sandwiches and wraps.

Remember, in summer the island is very busy so plan for a bit of a wait if there are crowds. Some establishments are happy to take phone orders.

Kristo's

Shop 5/15-16 The Esplanade, Cowes

View of Kristos Restaurant taken from the street.

Where to start with the offerings of Kristo's? This very café is one of the best Phillip Island take-away destinations, especially for families.

Located on The Esplanade overlooking Westernport Bay towards the mainland, you can also eat at the few tables inside or on footpath tables.

Offering packs of chicken, souvlaki, roast dinners, schnitzels, seafood plus wraps, rolls, chips, burgers….. the list goes on.

For children there is a special menu.

I love this café as it is the only place where I can buy gluten free hot chips – how good is that? The proprietors have a deep fryer for gluten free chips only.

Generous servings is a feature of the meals. Try a souvlaki pack with your choice of meat plus pita bread (or chips for coeliacs) and Greek salad with garlic yoghurt – yum.

Phone orders are welcome.

Wing Ho Chinese Restaurant

81 Thompson Avenue, Cowes
☎ (03) 5952 2073

Wing Ho offers all the favourite Chinese dishes. If dining in, the menu is more extensive than the take-away offerings.

For take-away there are several stir fry dishes of different meats and vegetables, as well as sweet and sour dishes - and rice of course!

Options for coeliacs are very limited - only pork stir fry with vegetables.

Despite the small take away menu, the dishes we have tried have been delicious - one of the best Phillip Island take away.

Xpress Gourmet Pizza

1/72 Chapel Street, Cowes
☎ (03) 5952 2085

Xpress Gourmet Pizza offers delicious pizzas as well as some pasta dishes, chips and a few starters such as chicken wings.

Gluten free pizza bases are available so coeliacs can rest easy.

All pizzas have a generous topping - I can attest to this after ordering the Neapolitana.

The shop itself isn't particularly appealing, very much like a "greasy joe", but the pizzas make up for it.

Most people order take-away but there are a few tables if you want to eat in.

Delivery service available.

Open every day between 5.00pm and 9.00pm.

Isola di Capri

Cnr Thompson Ave and The Esplanade, Cowes
☎ (03) 5952 2435

Temporarily Closed

Isola di Capri has a large range of pizza toppings from a simple margherita to a funghi porcini or tiger prawn.

Most of the large and family size pizzas can be half and half.

For coeliacs, medium size gluten free bases are available.

Prices are mostly around the $20 to $23 mark, up to $27 for the tiger prawn topping.

During holidays open for lunch and dinner.

Phillip Island Chocolate Factory

930 Phillip Island Road, Newhaven
☎ (03) 5956 6600

A chocolate factory doesn't sound like a healthy option for a meal does it?!

However, the cafe here has fantastic authentic Indian curries, available for lunch - eat in or take away.

Lunch usually finishes around 3.00pm so get in before then. Simply re-heat for a delicious evening meal.

Curries are gluten free, but always check with the chef.

Prices around $20 for curry and rice.
