Grenache Wine Bar

Grenache Wine Bar has a prime position on Thompson Avenue, Cowes. But with a frontage of only a few metres and being discreetly set back from the footpath, it is easy to miss! The wine barrel out the front is a bit of a giveaway though!

The ambience is intimate, casual but still elegant with more than a touch of city sophistication. It’s a welcome find on Phillip Island.

In winter the atmosphere is made super cosy, with a wood fire.

Staff are very friendly and helpful with wine and food selections.

A great spot for wine lovers, there is a wide range of local, Australian and European wines – buy from the “cellar door” and receive a 30% discount. Local winery, Purple Hen, is available – it’s always nice to see the local businesses being supported.

But there is also great food. Choose from small tapas dishes, or if you need something more, try one of the larger plates.

Patrons can just have a drink at the bar – choose wine, cocktails or non-alcoholic tipples. A perfect spot to while away the afternoon with a wine and cheese board.

There are plenty of gluten free food options. Coeliacs can try anchovies with bread, local Kite Haven olives, mushroom risotto or a delicious pear, walnut and feta salad. These are some dishes I have tasted but there are more choices available. Just check with staff about dietary requirements.

It’s not often that I mention toilets in reviews, but I need to here as they are such a treat! It is such a pleasure to use the beautiful soaps and hand cream provided!

I really love this wine bar. The food and wine are fabulous and the atmosphere buzzes with happy patrons. A definite recommend!
