January 2023: Issue #063

Hello,

Welcome to Island Hopper! I hope you will discover lots about Phillip Island and the surrounding area.

Summer Music

Live music has well and truly returned to Phillip Island this coming summer!

Ocean Sounds Music Festival had a very successful concert in December on Churchill Island, with another to come on January 7. Featured will be John Butler, The Waifs, Mama Kin Spender, Steph Strings, Carissa Nyalu, and The Laing Brothers.

Relax on your picnic rug on the lawn to this great music line-up as the sun sets over the ocean. Food trucks and local wines and cheeses are available for purchase.

Churchill Island will also again host Sunday Summer Sessions. These free events feature local artists and will be held on the lawns with food and drinks available. Just bring your own chair or rug. The line-up is Sunday, 29 January – The Times; Sunday, 26 February and Sunday, 26 March – Dan Lunn.

Purple Hen Vineyard and Winery at Rhyll is bringing back Music @ The Hen on the first three Fridays and the last Saturday in January. The music begins at 6.00pm and entry is free except for the Saturday event which is ticketed. Bring your chair or rug and relax on the lawn with Purple Hen wines and platters. Check the Purple Hen website for details.

Phillip Island Winery at Ventnor is presenting Nick Anderson, an acoustic musician who performs around Australia, on January 22.

For jazz afficionados the Phillip Island Jazz Club runs monthly jazz sessions in their new venue at Phillip Island Bowls Club on Dunsmore Road, Cowes. Performing on January 15 will be Andy Scott, back by popular demand.

Various restaurants and hotels around Phillip Island and San Remo regularly provide live music so check their social media so see who’s playing at which venue.

Phillip Island Markets

A feature of the summer holidays on Phillip Island is the markets.

The Island Foreshore Market returns every Saturday to The Esplanade between Cowes Jetty and Erewhon Point. Always popular, this market provides food trucks, live music and lots of stalls selling diverse products.

Popular Churchill Island Farmers Market will be held a week later in January to accommodate the Ocean Sounds Music Festival, so get there on Saturday January 14 for fresh produce and gourmet goodies.

The Island Craft Market, Newhaven Market and Market on Church will be held on their regular scheduled dates.
