TIDAL Seafood FestivalThe San Remo TIDAL Seafood Festival returns to the San Remo Foreshore on September 18 to 20.Held to celebrate San Remo’s fishing village history, the festival is packed with activities. Kick off with an 8-course seafood dinner on Friday night under the bridge lights on the shore of Westernport Bay (bookings essential). On Saturday and Sunday enjoy live entertainment, seafood cooking demonstrations, sea shanties, children’s entertainment, fishing clinics, variety stalls and lots more. The Blessing of the Fleet will be held Saturday afternoon. The Blessing of the Fleet is a tradition going back hundreds of years to Mediterranean fishing communities, with evidence of blessings in Italy in the 15th century. The events that are part of the ritual vary from country to country and can range from a simple ceremony to a festival including church services, parades, dancing, feasting, and contests. The blessing is to ensure the fishing fleet has a safe and bountiful season. Wildlife Coast Cruises will have one-hour cruises from San Remo to Cape Woolamai – looking for wildlife and birds, and passing spectacular scenery. Finish by cruising under the Phillip Island Bridge.
Phillip Island Nature Parks School Holidays ProgramThe spring school holidays will soon be with us and Phillip Island Nature Parks has an exciting line-up of activities for children (and adults!).At the Koala Conservation Reserve there will be Koala Spotlight Tours as well as the regular guided (and unguided) koala tours. At Churchill Island Heritage Farm there will be farm demonstrations (working dogs, sheep shearing, whip cracking and cow milking) and wagon rides. There is also the opportunity to see up close the gorgeous highland cattle with the “Highland Cattle Experience”. Take a tractor-drawn wagon to the cattle, and feed them while discovering why a cattle breed from Scotland is now at Churchill Island. Some activities are covered by your Churchill Island Heritage Farm entry ticket, some require separate bookings.
Highland Cattle at Churchill Island Heritage FarmMotoGP Australian Motorcycle Grand PrixThe MotoGP Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix will thrill crowds for 30th and last time at the Phillip Island Circuit from October 23/25.Apart from the thrills and spills at the picturesque fast-flowing track, there is a lot to entertain visitors at the Cowes MotoGP Entertainment Precinct in Cowes. With the new landscaping of Thompson Avenue in place, there will be more space to enjoy the big screen and live stage entertainment. As well as the wonderful views across Westernport Bay to the mainland. On Thursday October 22, the Homecoming Ride from San Remo will roll into Cowes. There will also be the traditional cavalcade of motorcycles arriving on Phillip Island on Saturday morning, always an amazing spectacle, enjoyed by spectators and riders alike. There is a wonderful chance for Bass Coast residents to farewell the grand prix with the Bass Coast Residents Free Community Day on Friday October 23 – our last chance to get up close to the riders and machines.
